Villarreal have been impressed with Tottenham Hotspur loanee Giovani Lo Celso and would like to sign him on a permanent deal.
This is according to a recent report by Football Insiderwho claims the Spanish side would like to make the Argentina midfielder’s move permanent next season.
After appearing to fall out of favor with Italy manager Antonio Conte earlier this year, 26-year-old Lo Celso was allowed to go abroad in search of first-team minutes.
“I had contact with the coach at the time (of signing),” said the Spurs midfielder, as detailed by Brand.
“But as soon as possible, I want to put myself under his orders and meet my new teammates because they have talked a lot about the group.
“We have great expectations in a championship that I like very much and in which I have good memories”.
Joining Unai Emery’s Yellow Submarine in the January transfer window, Lo Celso has already made nine La Liga appearances and played a key role in the team reaching the Champions League semi-finals.
Therefore, it’s perhaps no surprise to learn that the Spanish side would like to retain the midfielder’s services beyond this season.
Interestingly though, although Lo Celso could be available for just £30million, Tottenham Hotspur’s recruitment team are reportedly considering a player swap deal which includes defender Pau Torres.
Whether or not the Londoners could convince Villarreal to part ways with one of Europe’s most in-demand centre-backs remains to be seen.
However, if Lo Celso continues his impressive form under Emery, they may have no choice but to accept a swap deal.
Torres, 25, has just two years left on his contract and is currently valued at around £45million (transfer market), therefore, it wouldn’t be unrealistic to expect Tottenham Hotspur to offer cash, as well as Lo Celso.
